This past Wednesday was the 1 year anniversary of the weekly Meltdown Show at Meltdown Comics, which means it’s been one year since I started going, what on account of me going to that first show. Since then, my life has changed in several significant ways, the most positive of which is how many great friends I have gained from going to this comedy show every week.
What started as a neat thing to do on a Wednesday has retroactively become the reason I live where I live, two blocks away from the comic book shop the show takes place in. I’ve met so many great people, seen so many great comedians, and learned so much about comedy just from going to this show. I go nearly every week, and for $8 a show I’ve gotten the best comedy, the best education, and the best therapy, all while accidentally becoming a part of the best community around.
If you like comedy, and you’re ever in LA on a Wednesday, then there’s nothing else you should be doing. I’ll be there, after all, just be careful not to sit directly behind the afro. And yes, at the end of the show when Jonah screams out “Goodnight, Dorsey!” he is talking about me, but I’m going to try to stop telling people that when I introduce myself, because I always come off sounding like a dick.
Tons of great Meltdown pictures (like the ones above) can be found at Robyn Von Swank’s and Tyler Ross’ Flickr Feeds
